The historic halls of the House of Lords opened their doors to 120 bright young minds and
their families for a groundbreaking event - Frontiers in STEM - f(i)S.
Hosted by Lord Tony Sewell CBE, and Generating Genius; designed & delivered
by Profesor Gregory Polletta and iGNITIATE: and organised by OneHive this event
brought together students, parents, and some of the UK’s leading experts to explore the future
of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
This landmark gathering provided students with the unique opportunity to learn from top industry professionals, gain valuable networking experience, and explore real-world STEM applications. Beyond the inspiring discussions and hands-on insights, parents were encouraged to attend and witness their children’s potential firsthand, equipping them with the knowledge to support their aspirations effectively.
Research consistently highlights the crucial role of parental involvement inshaping a child’s future success. Frontiers in STEM reinforced this message, offering a rare chance for families to engage directly with STEM leaders and envision pathways toward high-impact careers.
"Sitting in a room with a Lord, a nuclear weapons scientist, a quantum computing expert and perhaps the most dynamic and charismatic founder/global professor I had ever seen was an experience I can never forget. " - Student, 16
The grandeur of the House of Lords served as a powerful reminder that excellence and ambition should be within reach for all young people -particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
By immersing students in this influential setting, the event underscored that STEM is not just about individual career success but about shaping the future of the UK’s economy and global leadership in science and technology.
Lord Tony Sewell & OneHive: Driving Change Together
The event was made possible through the sponsorship and vision of Lord Tony Sewell CBE, a champion for diversity and inclusion in STEM. As the founder of Generating Genius, a charity dedicated to increasing access to STEM opportunities for disadvantaged students, Lord Sewell has been a driving force in mentoring and educational innovation.
Through a strategic partnership with OneHive, this initiative has scaled a innovative STEM programme across 12 schools, supporting 300 students and mentors through the OneHive platform.
"Seeing so many young people engage with STEM in this iconic venue is a testament to their potential. Through partnerships like this, we are ensuring that the next generation has the knowledge, mentorship, and opportunities needed to thrive in the world of science and innovation." - Lord Sewell of Sanderstead
Looking Ahead Frontiers in STEM is more than an event; it is a movement to empower young minds, breaking barriers, and redefining the future of STEM education.
“The event was a huge success and we had more applicants from all over the country than seats! The enthusiasm and spirit of the young people resonated throughout the day. The OneHive team have found the clear correlation between engaging diverse talent and future economic growth. ” - Rushab Shah, CEO OneHive
Building on this success, the organisers are committed to expanding access and continuing to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders. We will continue to encourage growth of our economy and strive to BeeTheChange.
